Winter 2012

Parent's Hour

Parent’s Hour is a parent’s educational/support group for parent’s of children with developmental difficulties.

The goal of Parent’s Hour is to bring awareness of developmental issues, promote early intervention, target parent concerns and provide the needed parental support and guidance. Each session will have a specific topic to be discussed followed by an open discussion.

Parent’s Hour is offered 2x/month (generally the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month) from 6:00-7:00 p.m. There are some date changes due to the holiday schedule.

These educational sessions will be facilitated by Lisa Langweil, an experienced speech and language pathologist and professionals in the community who can offer their expertise on specific topics.

Cost: $25.00/session

Language Therapy Groups
Winter/Spring Session 2012

Social Language Group
This 9 week group offers children ages 8-11 years old assistance with pertinent areas of social communication including; understanding self, feelings of self and others, communicating with and without words, reading between the lines and problem solving. These social skills will assist children in becoming more confident and competent communicators. Activities will focus around modeling, scripting,  role playing, simulating natural environments, self evaluation and parent education. This group will include 8 treatment sessions,1 parent group session and a “social smart” workbook.

When: Every Wednesday 4:30-6:00 p.m.
February 1st- March 28th

 

Smart BUT Scattered
This 10 week group is designed to foster the development of executive functioning skills in children ages 10-14 years old. This group will target effective strategies and treatment interventions for planning, organization, time management, working memory, attention, task follow through and self monitoring/assessment. These skills will assist children in managing their behavior and improving social and academic performance at home and in school. This group will include 9 treatment sessions, 1 parent groupsession and a home exercise workbook.

When: Every Monday 5:00-6:00 p.m.
February 27th- May 10th (no group April 16th )

*These groups are recommended for children with difficulties such as
ADHD, ASD (high functioning), NLD or general difficulties.
(children must meet appropriate criteria)
